Poi - the staple starch of the
traditional Hawaiian diet, is made from taro, an ancient root crop grown
throughout the Tropics. Early Hawaiians not only used the taro plant for
food, but also utilized the various parts for medicinal purposes; treating
ailments ranging from insect bites and fevers to heart problems and stomach
disorders. The poi you eat is pounded taro root and, yes, it is supposed
to be lilac in color. Poi may be frozen up to six months. [more

Ti
Leaves - decorate your luau in style. Dress up your food dishes
and place under the serving dish or directly under the food on top of the
serving dish. Our customers also like to hang the leaves long ways on the
edges of the serving table creating a table skirt. Ti leaves are approximately
three to four inches wide and one to two feet long.
The Ti plant grows abundantly, cultivated and wild, throughout the tropical
Pacific and Southeast Asia. The people of Hawai`i plant it around their
homes and churches for good luck. Ti leaves are considered sacred. The Ti's
versatile leaves have many uses, including: roof thatching; as fly whisks
or fans; wrappings for cool food storage, preservation and protection; for
wrapping of food to be cooked, especially for lau lau Ti leaves are also
decorative; they are braided, twisted or woven into lei for numerous special
